Sergio Fahrer began his career in an unconventional way. He studied at the Musicians Institute of Technology (MIT) in Los Angeles, USA, where he learned the art of lutherie—the design and construction of musical instruments. Drawing from these techniques, he transitioned into design, and his first piece, the Blues Chair, became an icon of Brazilian design. Today, his work is internationally recognized as a reference in curved wood furniture design, known as multilaminate construction.
In 2007, Jack Fahrer joined his brother in the field of furniture design. Also a musician, he has a background in fashion and had recently returned from a period in New York, where he worked with comics. The partnership between the brothers gave rise to the furniture design brand Fahrer.
